Funny you should ask, because I've actually LOST the art of the smoky eye! I used to be able to do it with my eyes closed. :) But somehow I just don't get the same results anymore. Do you think the products have changed?? Or is it (gulp) me?? Maybe I should just sit back and read how everyone else does it...

I use browns for my smokey eye. I start with light shade all over my lids followed by a medium shade on the 2/3 of my lids just until the crease. I then apply a dark brown shadow on the outer third and on the crease to define it. I blend them well and then apply a small amount of black shadow on the outer v to deepen the look. I apply eyeliner and tons of mascara. I mirror the colors on my lower lashline as well.

I start with a dark black eyeliner. I smudge the liner using a paintbrush (from the hardware store!) I use a deep deep purple or brown shadow. Using an eyeshadow brush I blend in color starting at your lash line and blend up. I keep going until the eye liner disappears.

Hi Deb,
I think both the rules of the game and products have changed. I never used to be able to create the smokey eye but now am able too with the basics - black liner, grey shadow and mascara.

My favorite is a 'neutral' kind of smokey eye. I use a neutral color all over the lid then I take a darkbrown and apply it in a V, as well as under the waterline, and I apply it as a liner getting thicker the closer I get to the outer part of the eye.

in my case the key to a good smokey look is good blending of colors.

to don a smokey look is easy but to do the smokey look is quite challenging because it takes some time & practice in blending the colors out.

so for me the perfect tool & a practiced hands are the key element in making the perfect smokey look!

im sorry i dont use twitter but i posted your giveaway HERE

aww you spoil us with awesome giveaways!
I have monolids so I usually just end up putting grey eyeshadow on.. oh and mascara of course :D. Do you have monolids? How do you wear eyeliner? I find it just makes my eyes look smaller, even when I only do the outer corner..

I start with a champagne color all over, then use a medium taupe/light brown in the crease, followed by a dark brown or grey on the outer v.
It's my no brainer, not too hard to screw up, fall back on look!

I create my smokey eye with only a few products: black eyepencil, black and grey eyeshadow, illuminating shade and mascara.

I apply the grey eyeshadow on the inner corner of my lid. Then I apply black eyepencil on the rest of the mobile lid. I blend it with my fingers for avoid creasing. Later, I apply the black eyeshadow on top of this black eyepencil and I blend it to the crease and the outer V. I apply the grey eyeshadow on the crease and outer V to create this smokey effect and blend it with the black. I also apply a illuminating shade on my brow bone. I delineate the upper and lower lashes and with a little brush I blend it to create again the smokey effect. Finally I apply two coats of mascara.

Hai,

Yes, I am one of those many Asian women who have a monolid. My tricks:
* Keep liner sharp and as close to the lashline as possible
* Line the inner rim of the bottom lash line rather than around it to prevent narrowing the eye.
* Accentuate the outter 'V' to create the illusion of width and depth.
*Avoid piling on too many colors.
* A single dark solid shadow applied to the upper lid works really well and is easy to pull off if you have a monolid.

Thanks for the chance! I create my smokey eye look by using mechanical eye liner with the eraser at the end and lightly smudge the corners of my eye lids. I tweeted here: http://twitter.com/AMPaway/status/5641048563 and follow your blog.

Hey!

Great giveaway! I'm not particulary good at creating my own smoky eye. I'm just to messy to get it right. But when I do wear smoky eye my friend makes it for me. I mostly wears grey or brown smoky eye but would love to try black one day.

I don't have a tweeter account so I couldn't retweet this post. Sorry;)

My smokey eye is simple and easy. I start with applying a base, usually MAC Soft Ochre paint pot, all over, then I apply a dark base on the lid only (either NYX Slate Jumbo eye pencil or Blackground paint pot by MAC). I like to wear silver on the lid, then a dark charcoal grey in the crease and black shadow in the outer V to darken up the look. Pealy white e/s on the inner corners to brighten up my eyes and a matte cream e/s as my highlight. Black eyeliner on upper and lower lash line. Flesh colored pencil on waterline, and mascara. ;)

I am a follower and RT this on my page macbella2

thank you lovely :)

I haven't worn a smokey eye for years and years. I used to line the top and bottom waterlines with a pencil eyeliner, then fill in the lids with a black eyeshadow and use a bit of the eyeshadow with an angled brush to give the bottom eyeliner a less harsh line. Then I would blend the top of the black eyeliner with some color (usually baby blue). Thinking back on the process I'm getting kind of exhausted!

To do the smoky eye look, I start by sweeping a light shade of eye shadow over my eyelid. Then I apply a medium shade of eye shadow on my eyelid from the center to the outside corner. I apply the dark shade to my crease and blend, blend, blend to make sure there are no hard lines. I line my eyes with black eyeliner and finish with a couple coats of black mascara. Usually I go with gray shades for the smoky eye but I also like to use purples.

Interesting about the word limit. d= I am a fan of Rimmel products - I have some lip colour and mascara from them that I like quite a bit but I haven't tried more. The dimensional eye shadow is actually quite intriguing. I wonder how much easier that is to create a look than doing it with 'normal' shadow.

I've never been able to perfect the smokey look.
I use a dark liner and two different eyeshows and blend , but I am never really happy with it.
